Today, Wednesday 14th February 2024, and happy Valentine’s Day. We have a hot sticky wet mess for you… Grants Lock, Twyford, Banbury, OX17 3JW. This was reported as a derelict canalside lock keeper’s cottage. It has subsequenty been toasted. Basically now a shell in a beautiful location. One of our volunteers here at Unique Property Bulletin is tempted to buy, but current geographic restrictions of our volunteer crew means he has to say: “thanks, but no thanks“ to the estate agents. But had he said “yes” it would seem pragmatic to haggle £20,000 to £50,000 off of the price (it has been listed on Rightmove since 13th November 2023 and is proving difficult to shift). He and we would use the spare money saved to buy a modest canal boat. Then live aboard that vessel (berthed near by) whilst renovating this potentially picturesque canalside cottage. In fact whilst submitting the planning application, we would see if it were possible tonight dig out and connect a “T-spur” from the canal and into the private garden (a generous 0.22 acres). We have shown a couple of photos of garden harbours within our photos attached to this post. Grant’s Lock Cottage is currently listed at £200,000. Bonne chance mes amis:

This canal lay-by is NOT included in this sale. It is shown so as we can clarify to out Unique Property Bulletin readers what we mean by building a “T-Spur“ off of the main canal and into your garden. A ton of planning permissions would be required nowadays. but if you have a big enough plot of land at your canalside home, it would be brilliant to park your own canal-boat away from the main superfast (4mph) wet highway outside of your gaff.
